A 3-2 week last week brings me to 18-17…barely floating over .500. This could be the toughest week of picks we will have all season. Here’s my NFL Week 8 “locks” against the spread.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-4) @ Tennessee Titans (3-4) (-3.5)
The Jaguars have undoubtedly been a huge disappointment as we approach the halfway point of the season. They can really only go up from here. The Titans are being carried by the legs of DeMarco Murray. I got to lock in the Jaguars here to cover that line, especially in a Thursday night matchup. This is usually the sloppiest game of the week, and I expect this one to come down to the wire. Marcus Mariota has not been anything to write home about, and Gus Bradley’s seat is continuously getting hotter.
2. New York Jets (2-5) @ Cleveland Browns (0-7) (+4)
This feels so weird. I’m locking in the freaking Jets to not just win, but cover the four-point spread. The Browns are just a disaster. The Jets were sloppy, but played well enough to beat a decent Ravens team last week. Even with Josh McCown back this week, I expect the Jets to rally around Ryan Fitzpatrick and win in Cleveland by a touchdown. They’re just the better team despite the 2-5 start.
3. New England Patriots (6-1) @ Buffalo Bills (4-3) (+6)
Rex Ryan has the Bills in the playoff race, and now they have to face the Patriots. Tom Brady has more wins against the Bills (26) than any other team he’s faced. They are beating everyone by double digits. I fully expect the Patriots to do the same and win in Buffalo by at least a TD.
4. San Diego Chargers (3-4) @ Denver Broncos (5-2) (-6)
The Chargers are finally finding ways to close out games and not blow leads. It started with that win over the Broncos a couple weeks ago, but you know Denver has that game in the back of their minds, which means they are coming into this matchup Sunday furious. Devontae Booker is going to come in and run all over the Chargers defense. The Broncos defense will come after Philip Rivers. Lock in the Broncos for a big win.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) @ Dallas Cowboys (5-1) (-4.5)
The Cowboys have been riding the Dak Prescott train into first place in the NFC East. There’s enough tape now out on the rookie QB for the Eagles to have an effective game plan against him. He’s got a tall task taking on the Eagles and their defense, which stifled the Vikings offense last week. This divisional rivalry game is going to be tight, and you can lock in the Eagles to at least cover and lose by a field goal.
