Ty Montgomery started the season as a backup wide receiver. If you’re a Packers fan or a fantasy football fan, you would know that he has become a huge factor over the course of the season as a running back given the team’s injury issues.
Montgomery first broke out against the Bears back in October for over 120 total yards with limited touches and has since seen his role be inconsistent. Today, with a host of other capable weapons out for the Pack, Montgomery has put his name back in the mix of most electrifying players as he picked up 123 yards and a touchdown on the ground on only nine carries.
Montgomery offers a speed that separates him from plenty of other backs and the versatility to make him so dangerous. This was on full display as he’s been juking, spinning and using sheer muscle to get his yards today. This is already the most amount of yards Montgomery has picked up rushing the ball on the season and has tied his season-high on carries.
The rushing yardage total in the first half was the second-most by any Green Bay player in in a half since 1991. For a guy who wears the number 88, it may be time to find him a new number more suitable for backs. If you benched him in fantasy, tough luck.
The Packers and Bears went into halftime tied up though that must seem like a bit of a disappointment in Green Bay. The Packers have been struggling this season and sit at 7-6 but still have an outside shot at making the playoffs. A big half will be needed to keep that slim chance alive against the 3-10 Bears who are looking to ruin their chances.
