Damon Amendolara asked AP college football writer Ralph Russo to look into his crystal ball Friday to ponder where Chip Kelly will coach in 2018.
DA threw out Texas A&M, but Russo went in another direction – and conference – altogether.
“Chip Kelly is the head coach of UCLA in 2018,” Russo predicted on CBS Sports Radio’s The DA Show. “Texas A&M is a good one. Texas A&M is a really good one. I think I could see the UCLA mix working better because he’s familiar with the West Coast. I think he could have more power at UCLA.”
But would Kelly want to battle USC for Los Angeles talent year in and year out?
“I don’t think Chip ever looked at a situation and thought, ‘I can’t do that,’” Russo said. “And listen, I’m not dismissing the A&M idea – because that makes sense, too.”
A&M, in fact, may be the better job.
“I would say probably A&M, but both suffer the major problem of being the No. 2 team in your state (or) area,” Russo said. “UCLA is always going to be second to USC, and A&M, I know they don’t want to hear this, but you’re second not only to Texas, but you’re second, third, or fourth in your division to Alabama and LSU.”
